About Your Auction Template

I think designing, or buying an appealing template is important.  I used to create my own, and I’ve used Robshelp.com and his Freeform template building program and learned a lot about html and building webpages by spending time there.

For a while I did all my own using Microsoft Front Page, and sometimes still do.   I like several of the Ebay sellers templates, and they are relatively easy to use and reasonably priced.   Design, or have made, a nice Logo for your Nursery.  I make most of my own logos and template buttons and labels using  MS Picture It! 10 mentioned here.

Develop a look that people will associate with your nursery when they browse auctions on Ebay.  I’ve had several done for me by Enchanting Templates.  This one is The Fifth Muse.  Another excellent one is In My Cedar Chest.

A note about music:  Many people like to use music in their auctions.  Collectors as a rule seem not to like this much,

and I know for a fact that music embedded in an auction can shut some people’s computers down.  Just my opinion here, but I’d advise you to skip the music, or at least place a button in the html at the top allowing folks to turn it off before viewing your auctions.

Something else about auction FONTS.  Did you know that the person viewing your auction must have that fancy font you used in your auction loaded onto their computer or it will appear on their monitors as a default font, most likely Times New Roman?

For example, in this auction I used Maiandra GD.  I will bet that at least a few of you viewing this class or the original template are seeing the text in Arial, Verdana, or Times New Roman, not the font I selected!

Point being, it could be a waste of time to build an auction with a lot of fancy fonts.  Stick with the common ones.

Make sure the background color doesn’t clash with the font color, and make sure it doesn’t clash with the baby either!  There is a lot to be said for using a background and or template that complements the photos and the clothing you have the baby in.   Sort of a “picture and the frame” idea.
