Creating a Wrap-Around Body Plate

 Creating a Wrap-Around Body Plate

The black line shows where you need to cut and the black dots show where you need to make little holes for the ties.

I usually glue some white or skin color felt fabric on the inside, so it looks cuter and more professional.

If you want to get a front and back to show instead, just cut along one side and leave the rest of the body intact.

Update by S. Sullivan:

The holes you make will not appear this large in reality.  Mine are done with a dressmaker’s awl, and are hardly visible.  More like a pierced ear mark.

Next, cut 4 pieces of strong, but slender craft ribbon (I generally use a peach color) at least 6 inches long each.

Push one end of the ribbon through the hole in the vinyl with the awl or some other pointed tool.  Pull enough through so you can knot it, then pull the long end back from the front to make the knot snug against the inside of the plate.

Knot the other end of the ribbon.  This prevents one end from pulling back out and the other end from fraying.  Using Fray Check or even clear nail polish on the tying ends helps prevent fraying too.

To use, just tie the long ends together tightly over the stuffed body slip.

If you elect to provide a back plate, you simply tie the matching ribbons together tightly over the stuffed body slip for display.
